web-access-claude-skill — Claude Code skill: web access and Chrome
Lets the agent pick between search, page fetch and driving your real Chrome. Useful when a site sits behind a login or renders on JS.
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill web-access-claude-skill -a claude-codeWhat web-access-claude-skill does
The skill fills three gaps: the agent does not know when to reach for WebSearch versus WebFetch versus a browser; it cannot click or upload files; it forgets how a given domain behaves. Inside there is a task-to-tool table, a Node.js proxy and a per-domain store of URL patterns and quirks that survives across sessions.
The cdp-proxy.mjs script runs as a WebSocket bridge to your running Chrome. Over its HTTP endpoints the agent opens tabs, evaluates JS, clicks, scrolls, takes screenshots and sets files on inputs. Cookies come from your own Chrome session, so login-gated pages load without a separate auth step. For parallel work, sub-agents share one proxy and stay tab-isolated.
You need Node.js 22 or newer and remote debugging switched on in Chrome. check-deps.sh verifies both. The proxy exits on its own after 20 minutes idle, so a long run means keeping an eye on it.
What it helps with
- pick the right tool per task instead of guessing
- read a page that sits behind a login
- click a canvas element or an upload trigger
- split several targets across parallel sub-agents
- pull image and video URLs out of the DOM
Example prompts for the agent
- open the page and collect the titles of the first ten links
- go to the members-only section and pull the text from .main-content
- screenshot the tab to /tmp/shot.png
