openspec-context-loading — Claude Code skill: spec context on demand
This skill finds specs, active changes and requirements in a project and hands the agent a ready summary. Useful when you need to know what OpenSpec already describes.
npx skills add forztf/open-skilled-sdd --skill openspec-context-loading -a claude-codeWhat openspec-context-loading does
The skill walks spec/specs and spec/changes, reads spec.md, proposal.md and tasks.md, then writes the answer. Search, read, summarize. Under the hood it is a set of find, grep and ls commands plus response templates for common questions like what specs exist or what is inside change X.
There is a dashboard mode too: a script counts capabilities, requirements and scenarios, and lists active against archived changes. That script needs bc; without it the average-scenarios-per-requirement line will not compute. Same story with tree — if it is missing, the spec tree output fails, though ls -R covers it.
The skill expects the OpenSpec layout: spec/specs/<capability>/spec.md and spec/changes/<change-id>/. Point it at a project with a different file layout and the searches come back empty.
What it helps with
- see which specifications already exist in a project
- list active changes with their rationale
- find requirements and scenarios by keyword
- read the full contents of one change
- build a summary of capabilities and requirement counts
Example prompts for the agent
- show me the OpenSpec project context
- what specs exist in this project?
- find requirements about password

Questions about openspec-context-loading
How do I install openspec-context-loading in Claude?
Run npx skills add forztf/open-skilled-sdd --skill openspec-context-loading -a claude-code. The skill lands in ~/.claude/skills/openspec-context-loading/SKILL.md.
What does openspec-context-loading do?
It loads project context: lists specifications and active changes, searches capabilities and requirements. It answers questions about project state and helps you locate a specific spec.
What directory layout does the skill need?
It looks for files under spec/specs/<capability>/spec.md and change folders under spec/changes/. In a project with a different layout the searches return nothing.
