three-statement-model-builder — Codex skill for financial models
Builds an integrated Excel operating model for a public company, linking its income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. Use it for a new forecast or a model refresh.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill three-statement-model-builder -a codexWhat three-statement-model-builder does
The main deliverable is a formula-driven workbook covering the three statements, operating drivers, scenarios, and model checks. Its Cover tab presents the key outputs, warnings, and workbook map. Formula mode is the normal route for a full build; deterministic exports are reserved for controlled calculations, smoke tests, or lightweight support work.
Start with a valid plan.json, validate it with python3 scripts/validate_plan.py, then run python3 scripts/build_banker_formula_workbook.py. The supporting python3 scripts/run_pipeline.py path is for limited calculation and export cases. Outputs include the workbook, run log, and manifest; formula mode also writes model_citations.json. Active placeholders or unsupported assumptions cap the model at screen-grade, while hard failures make it not-decision-ready. A financial package is needed for a company-specific build; without context, the template plan is illustrative.
What it helps with
- build an integrated income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow forecast
- refresh a public-company operating model in Excel
- connect working capital, debt, and cash in one forecast
- surface model checks and unresolved assumptions in the workbook
Example prompts for the agent
- Build a formula-based three-statement model from this public-company financial package.
- Refresh the forecast in
plan.jsonand save the workbook underoutput. - Review the run log and report whether the model is decision-ready.
