social-media-trends-research — Claude Code skill
A skill that pulls trend data from Google Trends, Reddit and Perplexity MCP. Useful when you need to spot rising demand in a niche before writing.
npx skills add drshailesh88/integrated_content_OS --skill social-media-trends-research -a claude-codeWhat social-media-trends-research does
Three sources, one skill. pytrends handles Google Trends: interest over time, related queries, regional spikes. Reddit comes in through public .json endpoints, so no login is involved. Twitter, TikTok and general web questions go to Perplexity MCP.
Install the dependencies once with pip install pytrends requests --break-system-packages. The bundle ships scripts/reddit_scraper.py with a SimpleRedditScraper class exposing search and get_subreddit. Sleeps between calls are baked into the examples, and that matters: hit Google Trends or Reddit too fast and you get a 429. The skill's own guidance is to pause 60–120 seconds, and 4–6 hours if the errors keep coming.
Think of it as the data-collection half of a research setup. Strategy lives in content-marketing-social-listening, deeper lookups in perplexity-search. Skip it if you have no Perplexity MCP configured — the Twitter, TikTok and web portion simply won't run, leaving you with Google Trends and Reddit.
What it helps with
- spot a search-interest spike in a niche over the past 90 days
- pull hot threads from niche subreddits
- list related queries flagged as rising
- see what Twitter and TikTok are discussing without scraping them directly
- check a keyword's seasonality across a full year
Example prompts for the agent
- Find breakout topics for "heart health" in Google Trends over the last 3 months
- Pull the hot posts from r/cardiology and r/health this week
- What is Twitter and TikTok saying about cardiology right now?
