shared — Claude Code skill: templates and rules for building skills

Helps you write new skills and clean up existing ones: structure, front matter, splitting into modules. Useful once your agent starts losing track of your instructions.

What shared does

The skill activates when you ask to create a skill, ask about skill structure, or want to refactor an old one. It ships one module, skill-creator/: templates for simple and modular skills, a walkthrough of YAML front matter, modularization patterns, and a list of common pitfalls. The flow is short — figure out what you need, read the module files, apply them to your case.

Tools are plain: Read, Write, Glob, Grep, Bash. Nothing extra to install, and no magic either — this is a set of text templates and advice, not a code generator. If you already have your own skill format, expect to adapt the templates by hand.

Worth it when you maintain several skills and want them consistent. For a single small skill you won't notice the difference.

What it helps with

  • create a new skill from a template
  • split an oversized skill into modules
  • get YAML front matter right
  • rewrite an old skill to match current structure
  • figure out why the agent ignores your instructions

Example prompts for the agent

  • help me create a new skill for handling migrations
  • split my skill into modules, it has grown too big
  • check the front matter in ~/.claude/skills/shared/SKILL.md
