setup-context7-mcp — Claude Code skill: wire up Context7 MCP
This skill walks the agent through setting up the Context7 MCP server and writes the library IDs into CLAUDE.md so code follows current docs.
npx skills add NeoLabHQ/context-engineering-kit --skill setup-context7-mcp -a claude-codeWhat setup-context7-mcp does
First the skill asks where the configuration should live: a shared ./CLAUDE.md tracked in git, a personal ./CLAUDE.local.md, or a global ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md for every project. That choice drives the rest of the run, so decide early whether your team needs the same settings.
Next the agent checks whether the Context7 MCP server responds. If it does not, the skill pulls the context7 README and guides you through setup for your agent and OS. It also parses whatever arguments you passed. Leave them empty and the agent inspects the project structure and technologies itself; on an empty project it asks you to list the languages and frameworks you plan to use.
At the end a block with recommended library IDs and short descriptions lands in CLAUDE.md. If ./CLAUDE.local.md is missing from .gitignore, the skill tells you to add it — otherwise your personal settings get committed.
What it helps with
- connect the Context7 MCP server to your agent
- pick where config lives: project or global
- collect the project's libraries for documentation lookup
- write recommended doc IDs into CLAUDE.md
- keep the local settings file out of git
Example prompts for the agent
- set up Context7 MCP for this project
- add react and fastapi docs to CLAUDE.md via context7
- check if Context7 MCP is available and install it if not
