reset — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Clears or archives the active FPF reasoning cycle so you can start a fresh analytical session.
npx skills add NeoLabHQ/context-engineering-kit --skill reset -a claude-codeWhat reset does
This skill manages the FPF reasoning cycle stored in your .fpf directory. It gives your agent a structured procedure to restart work without losing track of past ideas or cluttering the workspace.
Three reset modes are available. The soft reset writes a summary to .fpf/sessions/ and moves active hypotheses into an archive folder. The hard reset clears out all markdown files from knowledge levels, evidence, and decisions. Because hard reset wipes those files permanently, the agent executes it only upon explicit confirmation.
The third mode resets decisions while keeping gathered knowledge intact. It downgrades validated L2 hypotheses back to L1 for a re-audit, or moves L1 hypotheses back to L0 for verification.
What it helps with
- archive active session hypotheses into
.fpf/sessions/ - wipe knowledge and evidence directories for a clean restart
- move L2 hypotheses back to L1 for re-auditing
- re-verify initial assumptions by rolling L1 items back to L0
Example prompts for the agent
- Perform a soft reset on the current FPF cycle and archive all hypotheses
- Do a hard reset and clear all files in the .fpf directories
- Reset decisions by moving L2 hypotheses back to L1 for re-evaluation

Questions about reset
How do I install reset in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add NeoLabHQ/context-engineering-kit --skill reset -a claude-code. The tool places the skill definition under ~/.claude/skills/reset/SKILL.md.
What is the difference between soft and hard reset?
Soft reset logs session metadata in .fpf/sessions/ and archives files instead of destroying them. Hard reset permanently deletes markdown files across .fpf/knowledge/, .fpf/evidence/, and .fpf/decisions/.
What does the decision reset option do?
It keeps existing notes but steps back hypothesis stages. It moves items from L2 down to L1 or from L1 down to L0 so the agent can re-evaluate them.
