setup-benny — Claude Code skill: configure Benny automations
Walks you through Benny's configuration and its two Cursor automations: issue triage and bug reproduction. Useful when installing Benny or changing its settings.
npx skills add cursor/plugins --skill setup-benny -a claude-codeWhat setup-benny does
The skill drives the whole Benny install. Benny is a dormant automation pack that lives inside pstack, so the first step copies the pack into the target repository under .cursor/automations/benny/ and enables the pstack plugin in .cursor/settings.json. Then it checks that the shared pstack skills (how, why, tdd, unslop and the principle rules) resolve from project scope for a fresh agent.
Next comes configuration. You supply the Slack channel, repository and default branch, issue tracker details, a feature map, and model slugs for triage and code work. The examples in templates/configuration.example.yaml and references/feature-map.example.md stay untouched — working copies go somewhere like .cursor/benny/configuration.yaml. Secrets never belong in plugin files or commits.
The automations need real access: reading the source Slack channel and its threads, downloading attachments, tracker actions through an adapter, repository history, and a draft pull request action. If project-scoped plugin install is unavailable or a shared skill does not resolve, setup stops and explains the failure. Worth checking that before you reach for /automate.
What it helps with
- copy the Benny pack into a target repository and enable pstack
- verify shared pstack skills resolve for a fresh agent
- create user-owned config and feature-map copies outside the pack
- collect required values: Slack channel, tracker, repository
- confirm the automations have Slack and tracker access
Example prompts for the agent
- set up Benny for this repository
- show me which values the Benny configuration needs
- check that the pstack skills resolve from project settings
