What qt-qml-test does

The skill inspects QML files and writes tst_*.qml test suites directly to the tests/ directory. It avoids dumping raw test code into the chat conversation. Generated tests rely on TestCase, SignalSpy, and tryCompare helpers to verify controls such as Button and Slider.

During generation, it checks the root component type. Singleton objects and ApplicationWindow structures receive specialized test templates. The skill skips Qt Quick 3D spatial nodes like Model or Skybox. If child elements lack objectName identifiers, it flags them so you can expose them for testing.

Setting up CMake runners or CTest integration remains outside this skill. You get test files, but execution requires separate build configuration.

What it helps with

  • create TestCase files for standalone QML components
  • verify signal emissions with SignalSpy
  • batch-generate unit tests across multiple QML files
  • validate states and animations of Qt Quick Controls

Example prompts for the agent

  • Generate tests for MyButton.qml
  • Create Qt Quick test cases for all components in controls/
  • Write tests verifying signal emission in Dial.qml
