What qt-qml-profiler does

The skill runs qmlprofiler against an application, parses the resulting .qtd trace, and checks hotspots against the source. Its summaries cover frame time, memory use, and the pixmap cache. It can also inspect an existing trace without launching the app again.

For a new capture, the skill locates qmlprofiler and can build the project with QML debugging enabled through CMake. Profiling can cover all available events or focus on rendering, logic, or memory. Qt and a working qmlprofiler executable are prerequisites; a failed CMake build must be resolved before profiling can continue.

The analysis targets 2D Qt Quick applications. Qt Quick 3D events are not analyzed, so 3D rendering bottlenecks will not appear in its results.

What it helps with

  • locate QML code that slows an interface
  • inspect frame timing and dropped frames
  • review memory use and the pixmap cache
  • relate profiler events to source code

Example prompts for the agent

  • Profile my QML app and identify the main performance bottlenecks.
  • Run a rendering-focused profile for ./build/my-app.
  • Analyze profiler/traces/app.qtd and report memory-related issues.

Questions about qt-qml-profiler

How do I install qt-qml-profiler in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add TheQtCompanyRnD/agent-skills --skill qt-qml-profiler -a claude-code. The skill file is placed at ~/.claude/skills/qt-qml-profiler/SKILL.md.

What does qt-qml-profiler do?

It profiles a 2D QML application with qmlprofiler or analyzes an existing .qtd trace. The report examines hotspots and summarizes frame time, memory, and pixmap-cache activity.

Can qt-qml-profiler analyze Qt Quick 3D?

No. Qt Quick 3D events are outside its analysis, so 3D rendering bottlenecks will not show up in the results.
