pestel-analysis — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Runs a product or market through the six PESTEL forces and fills a ready template. Useful before entering a new market or setting next year's roadmap.
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill pestel-analysis -a claude-codeWhat pestel-analysis does
pestel-analysis walks a product or market through six groups of external forces: political, economic, social, technological, environmental, legal. Inside are a step-by-step routine and template.md, the structure you end up filling in. It asks for the product, the geography and your time horizon first. Anything already pasted into the request it takes as answered.
The political block is split into government policy, stability, trade rules and taxation. The economic block covers growth, inflation, exchange rates and consumer spending. Social, technological, environmental and legal follow the same shape.
Know the edges. This is macro research, not competitor or internal analysis, and the skill says so itself. Short tactical calls are outside its remit. An unanchored run gives you generic facts, because PESTEL without a product and a place has nothing to bite on — so name both up front.
What it helps with
- map external forces before committing to a new market
- write down the macro assumptions the plan quietly leans on
- build the environment section for a strategy review
- work out what else shifts when a new regulation lands
- show investors the outside picture was checked
Example prompts for the agent
- PESTEL for our warehouse SaaS in Poland over an 18-month horizon
- run pestel-analysis on the product and name the biggest external risks
- scan the macro environment for `invoice-automation` in the US and EU
