peer-review · davila7 — Claude Code skill for manuscript review
Review scientific manuscripts and grant proposals with checks for methods, statistics, reproducibility, ethics, and reporting. Use it to structure a critical review across research fields.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill scientific/peer-reviewWhat peer-review does
The skill starts with a brief assessment of a study’s question and overall soundness, then works through the manuscript section by section. It checks methodology, statistical choices, reproducibility, ethics, data, conclusions, and references. Its methodological checks include sample size, randomization, blinding, and correction for multiple comparisons.
For reporting, it considers CONSORT, STROBE, and PRISMA. The skill also recommends adding scientific diagrams when a document lacks them. The listed generation command is python scripts/generate_schematic.py "your diagram description" -o figures/output.png; diagram generation relies on the separate scientific-schematics skill.
In Claude Code, the skill can read and edit files, write output, and run shell commands through Read, Edit, Write, and Bash. Review depth can be adapted to the manuscript type and discipline. That makes the separate schematic skill a requirement for the described diagram workflow, not for the core review.
What it helps with
- check whether a study can be replicated from its methods section
- spot unsuitable statistical tests and reporting gaps
- compare a paper’s conclusions with its reported results
- review ethics and data availability details
- organize manuscript feedback by section
Example prompts for the agent
- Review
manuscript.docxfor methodological and statistical issues, then organize the comments by section. - Assess this grant proposal for reproducibility, research design, and ethics.
- Check this paper’s reporting against CONSORT and flag items that need clarification.
