github · mitsuhiko — Claude Code skill: GitHub work via gh CLI
A skill that teaches the agent to work with GitHub through the gh CLI: pull requests, CI runs, issues and raw API queries.
npx skills add mitsuhiko/agent-stuff --skill github -a claude-codeWhat github does
The skill spells out how the agent should talk to GitHub using gh. It ships ready commands for three jobs: checking CI on a pull request (gh pr checks 55 --repo owner/repo), listing recent workflow runs (gh run list --repo owner/repo --limit 10), and viewing a run to see which steps failed, with logs (gh run view <run-id> --repo owner/repo --log-failed).
When a subcommand does not expose what you need, the skill points at gh api. Pulling specific PR fields looks like this: gh api repos/owner/repo/pulls/55 --jq '.title, .state, .user.login'. Most commands take --json for structured output and --jq to filter it, so results land as data instead of text you have to read.
One rule matters in practice: outside a git directory you must pass --repo owner/repo or hand over a URL directly. Skip it and gh has no idea which repository you mean, so the command fails. The gh CLI itself has to be installed and authenticated — the skill only describes how to drive it.
What it helps with
- check CI status on a specific pull request
- find which workflow steps failed and pull their logs
- list recent CI runs for a repository
- fetch PR fields that plain subcommands do not show, via
gh api - filter
ghoutput into JSON with--jsonand--jq
Example prompts for the agent
- check CI on PR 55 in owner/repo
- list the last 10 workflow runs in owner/repo
- use gh api to get the title, state and author of PR 55

--- name: github description: "Interact with GitHub using the `gh` CLI. Use `gh issue`, `gh pr`, `gh run`, and `gh api` for issues, PRs, CI runs, and advanced queries." --- # GitHub Skill Use the `gh` CLI to interact with GitHub. Always specify `--repo owner/repo` when not in a git directory, or use URLs directly. ## Pull Requests Check CI status on a PR: ```bash gh pr checks 55 --repo owner/repo ``` List recent workflow runs: ```bash gh run list --repo owner/repo --limit 10 ``` View a run and see which steps failed: ```bash gh run view <run-id> --repo owner/repo ``` View logs for failed steps only: ```bash gh run view <run-id> --repo owner/repo --log-failed ``` ## API for Advanced Queries The `gh api` command is useful for accessing data not available through other subcommands. Get PR with specific fields: ```bash gh api repos/owner/repo/pulls/55 --jq '.title, .state, .user.login' ``` ## JSON Output Most commands support `--json` for structured output. You can use `--jq` to filter: ```bash gh issue list --repo owner/repo --json number, title --jq '.[] | "\(.number): \(.title)"' ```
