markit-markdown-converter — Claude Code skill: convert files
This skill turns files, URLs, and media into Markdown through the markit-ai CLI or SDK. Use it when an agent needs readable content from source material.
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill markit-markdown-converter -a claude-codeWhat markit-markdown-converter does
The skill gives an agent a way to use markit-ai for PDFs, Word and PowerPoint files, spreadsheets, HTML, EPUB, notebooks, feeds, structured data, images, audio, ZIP archives, URLs, and source code. Output can go to a file, JSON, stdout, or another command in a pipe.
Its CLI reads stdin, reports supported formats, and installs converter plugins. The TypeScript API exposes Markit methods for paths, URLs, and Buffer values. Configuration comes from .markit/config.json, while installed plugins can be loaded by the SDK.
Image descriptions and audio transcription need an OpenAI or Anthropic API key. Without one, the media metadata path still works, but those AI features do not.
What it helps with
- turn a PDF or DOCX into Markdown
- pull article content from a URL
- describe an image with an LLM
- transcribe an audio recording
- add a custom converter plugin
Example prompts for the agent
- Convert
report.pdfto Markdown and write the result toreport.mdwithmarkit. - Fetch
https://example.com/articleand return its content as clean Markdown. - Use an LLM to describe
diagram.png, including its architecture and data flow.
