localization · unity-technologies — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Configures the Unity Localization package in your project. It sets up String and Asset Tables, configures locales, and binds text to UI components.
npx skills add Unity-Technologies/skills --skill localization -a claude-codeWhat localization does
The skill manages the setup of com.unity.localization by checking Packages/packages-lock.json directly. This avoids waiting on asynchronous Package Manager calls. Once verified, it locates or generates LocalizationSettings, registers target locales, and populates String and Asset Tables safely.
Asset searches stay scoped strictly to the Assets directory. That prevents editor scripts from picking up read-only assets bundled inside packages. When importing data arrays, entries match explicitly by Locale.Identifier.Code. Relying on array positions causes silent translation mismatches because the order of returned locales is not guaranteed.
UI bindings connect through public LocalizeStringEvent components wired to TMP_Text or standard Text fields. Reaching into internal classes like LocalizeComponent_TMPro via reflection is forbidden because internal APIs break when the package updates. Runtime language switching relies strictly on LocalizationSettings.SelectedLocale instead of custom state variables.
What it helps with
- verify and set up the com.unity.localization package
- generate String and Asset Tables matching locale codes
- bind UI text to TextMeshPro using LocalizeStringEvent
- manage runtime language switching via SelectedLocale
Example prompts for the agent
- Check if com.unity.localization is installed and add German and French locales
- Create a string table for the UI and wire it to TextMeshPro
- Configure runtime language switching and set up CJK font tables

Questions about localization
How to install localization in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add Unity-Technologies/skills --skill localization -a claude-code in your terminal.
What does the localization skill do?
It guides the agent through setting up the Unity Localization package cleanly. It covers locale creation, string and asset tables, and proper UI event binding.
Why does it avoid internal TextMeshPro localization classes?
Classes like LocalizeComponent_TMPro are internal in package version 1.5.12. Using reflection to access them risks breaking during future package updates, so the skill uses public LocalizeStringEvent listeners.
