What babysit does

The skill starts by reading the pull request with gh pr view, including mergeability, the current head SHA, the base branch, and the PR state. It then runs a single gh pr checks <n> -R <owner/repo> --watch --interval 10 process and waits for that process to finish. The exit status and reported checks both matter.

Once the watcher exits, babysit reads the PR again and takes a structured snapshot with gh pr checks <n> -R <owner/repo> --json name, bucket, state, workflow, link. For a known GitHub Actions run, it can use gh run watch <run-id> -R <owner/repo> --exit-status --compact --interval 10 and inspect failed logs. It does not merge the PR or post review comments.

A conflicted PR cannot start pull_request workflows on GitHub, so the skill reports that blocker before waiting. A service that posts only comments or reviews is outside gh pr checks; green CI does not prove that such a review has finished.

What it helps with

  • check whether a PR is mergeable
  • wait for all reported CI checks
  • identify a missing or stalled check
  • inspect failed GitHub Actions logs
  • verify results for the current head SHA

Example prompts for the agent

  • Babysit PR <n> in <owner/repo> and report the final check results.
  • Check the PR for conflicts, wait for CI, and tell me which checks failed.
  • Watch the GitHub Actions run for PR <n>, then show logs for failed steps.

Questions about babysit

How do I install babysit in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add jssblck/agents --skill babysit -a claude-code, then check ~/.claude/skills/babysit/SKILL.md.

What does babysit do?

It checks PR mergeability, waits for GitHub checks through the CLI, and verifies the final head SHA, statuses, and blockers. It does not merge the PR.

Does babysit monitor review comments?

No. gh pr checks can follow a review service that publishes a check, but a service that only adds comments or reviews needs its own completion mechanism.
