What godot-ui does

The skill loads a reference on Godot's UI system into the agent: the Control node hierarchy, anchors and offsets, layout containers, and interactive widgets such as Button, OptionButton, HSlider and Tree. A separate section covers theming — StyleBoxFlat for button states, fonts, colors, icons, spacing constants. You can build a theme in code or keep it as a .tres file.

It also ships layout blueprints for real screens: main menu, tabbed settings, a HUD with a health bar and score, an inventory. Each one is a node tree starting at CanvasLayer, so the agent doesn't have to guess where a MarginContainer belongs.

Responsive behavior is spelled out: connect to the viewport's size_changed and swap layouts based on aspect ratio. The skill is allowed Read, Write, Edit, Glob, Grep plus mcp__godot__* tools, so the MCP part only works if you have a Godot MCP server running — otherwise those calls go nowhere. Worth installing once your Godot scenes start turning into UI spaghetti.

What it helps with

  • lay out a menu with containers instead of hand-tuned offsets
  • build a button theme with normal, hover and pressed StyleBoxFlat states
  • put together a HUD with a health bar and score counter
  • switch layouts when the viewport size changes
  • pick the right Control node for a given widget

Example prompts for the agent

  • build a main menu on a CanvasLayer with a VBoxContainer and New Game, Settings, Quit buttons
  • create a button theme with normal, hover and pressed StyleBoxFlat states
  • rewrite the HUD so the layout adapts when the viewport gets narrow

Questions about godot-ui

How do I install godot-ui in Claude?

Run npx skills add Zate/cc-godot --skill godot-ui -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/godot-ui/SKILL.md.

What does godot-ui do?

It gives the agent knowledge of Godot Control nodes, containers, themes and common UI patterns — menus, HUDs, inventories, dialogue. The agent leans on that when writing or editing interface code.

Do I need a Godot MCP server?

The skill is allowed mcp__godot__* tools. Without a running Godot MCP server those calls won't fire, and only the file operations remain.
