figma-use-motion — Codex skill: Figma motion and install
Adds use_figma context for Figma node animation, covering keyframes, easing, animation styles, and timeline duration.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill figma-use-motion -a codexWhat figma-use-motion does
figma-use-motion extends figma-use for time-based work in Figma. With use_figma, an agent can read and change manual keyframe tracks, animate fills and strokes, apply or remove animation styles, and set a timeline duration. Pass skillNames: "figma-use-motion" alongside figma-use for motion calls.
The skill covers easing choices, including cubic and spring forms, plus resolved animation data. For motion checks, use export_video and extract frames with ffmpeg; get_screenshot shows the resting state only. The motion API is gated by the user feature flag metronome, so a not a supported API error is a stop condition rather than a reason to retry.
Creating new figma:motion preset modules is outside its scope. Animate descendants instead of a top-level frame, and check that structure before editing keyframes.
What it helps with
- add keyframes to a Figma node
- animate fill or stroke colors
- apply a discovered animation style
- set a timeline duration
- inspect motion phases frame by frame
Example prompts for the agent
- Call `use_figma` with `skillNames: "figma-use-motion,figma-use"` and add `TRANSLATION_X` keyframes to the selected node.
- Apply an animation style to this node and use `EASE_IN_AND_OUT` for its easing.
- Export the top-level frame with `export_video`, then inspect selected frames with `ffmpeg`.

Questions about figma-use-motion
How do I install `figma-use-motion` in Codex?
Run npx skills add openai/plugins --skill figma-use-motion, then run npx skills add openai/plugins --skill figma-use-motion -a codex. The skill file is at .agents/skills/figma-use-motion/SKILL.md.
What does `figma-use-motion` do?
It provides motion context for use_figma, covering manual keyframes, animated fills and strokes, animation styles, easing, and timeline duration. Static Figma work uses figma-use.
Why does `use_figma` return `not a supported API`?
The motion API requires the user feature flag metronome. After that error, stop the calls and tell the user that motion is not enabled for them.
