document-summary — Claude Code skill: summarize long documents
Turns a long document into an executive summary, a detailed recap or a bullet list. Useful when you need to grasp someone else's text fast.
npx skills add tatat/agents-playground --skill document-summary -a claude-codeWhat document-summary does
The skill reads a document and returns one of three formats. Executive summary runs two to three paragraphs and leans on conclusions, aimed at decision makers. The detailed version keeps the important details for readers who need full context. Bullet points give a quick-scan list of facts and figures.
Beyond summarizing, it pulls out the main arguments, builds a structured outline and identifies key entities and topics. Output follows a fixed shape: a short overview, key points, main topics, and action items as checkboxes when the text contains any.
The skill's own guidance says to preserve the original meaning, keep a neutral tone, include quantitative data when present and flag caveats. So on a messy or one-sided document you get an honest recap instead of an invented one. It installs into Claude, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and OpenCode.
What it helps with
- condense a long report into two paragraphs for a manager
- pull the main arguments out of someone else's text
- build a structured outline of a document
- find key entities and topics in a file
- list action items from meeting notes
Example prompts for the agent
- give me an executive summary of this document
- extract the key points and main topics from the file
- outline the article and flag any caveats
