investigation-summary — Claude Code skill: audience-specific memos
Turns a privileged internal investigation memo into a version for HR, leadership or outside counsel.
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill investigation-summary -a claude-codeWhat investigation-summary does
The skill takes an existing investigation memo and strips out whatever a given reader should not see. HR summaries carry no privilege analysis, no credibility methodology and no legal exposure discussion. Leadership gets the high-level picture. Outside counsel briefings keep the full context.
It runs through the internal-investigation reference skill, Mode 5 (Audience summary). If no memo exists yet, the skill offers to draft one first. The audience-stripping rules and summary templates live in internal-investigation, so load that before doing substantive work.
The call takes two arguments: the matter name and the audience — hr, leadership or outside-counsel. Skip the audience and the skill has no way to pick a version. Install with npx skills add; the skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/investigation-summary/SKILL.md.
This is built for legal investigation work, not for general document summarising. No privileged memo means nothing to work from.
What it helps with
- produce an HR version of a memo without privilege analysis
- write a short investigation brief for leadership
- assemble a full-context briefing for outside counsel
- strip credibility findings before a memo goes to another reader
- split one memo into several audience-specific versions
Example prompts for the agent
- /employment-legal:investigation-summary [matter name] hr
- /employment-legal:investigation-summary [matter name] leadership
- /employment-legal:investigation-summary [matter name] outside-counsel

How do I install investigation-summary in Claude?
Run npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill investigation-summary -a claude-code. The skill file ends up at ~/.claude/skills/investigation-summary/SKILL.md.
What does investigation-summary do?
It drafts an audience-specific summary from a privileged investigation memo, with separate versions for HR, leadership and outside counsel. Each version gets a different level of detail.
What do I need before using it?
An existing investigation memo and the internal-investigation reference skill loaded, since the stripping rules and templates come from there. With no memo, the skill offers to draft one first.
