creationix-rx-data-store — Claude Code skill: RX, install
This skill guides RX data encoding and direct reads from JSON-shaped documents. Use it when an agent needs path-based access without parsing the whole value.
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill creationix-rx-data-store -a claude-codeWhat creationix-rx-data-store does
The skill covers RX as an embedded store for JSON-shaped data. It shows the string and Uint8Array APIs, lazy structure inspection, path selection, and the rx command-line workflow for converting JSON and RX files. Opened values are read-only proxies, while common JavaScript operations and JSON.stringify() still work.
Array reads can use O(1) access and indexed object lookups use O(log n). The format supports deduplicated values, shared schemas, chunked output, and external references. A project using the library needs @creationix/rx; the CLI can be installed globally or invoked with npx.
External references require the decoder to receive the same dictionary as the encoder. A different refs mapping will break that lookup path.
What it helps with
- encode JSON-shaped data as RX
- read one nested value without parsing the whole document
- convert
.jsonand.rxfiles with the CLI - select a value by path segments
- stream encoded output to stdout
Example prompts for the agent
- Show me how to turn
manifest.jsoninto RX with indexes, then read one route by path. - Use
@creationix/rxto inspect this RX payload and return onlydata.users[0]. - Set up chunked RX output with
onChunkand write it to a file.

Questions about creationix-rx-data-store
How do I install creationix-rx-data-store in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill creationix-rx-data-store -a claude-code, then use ~/.claude/skills/creationix-rx-data-store/SKILL.md.
What does creationix-rx-data-store do?
It teaches an agent to encode JSON-shaped values with RX and access selected data without building the full object graph. The material also covers the @creationix/rx API and the rx CLI.
What must match when RX uses external references?
The decoder must receive the same refs dictionary as the encoder. This applies to both parse and open.
