create-database-row — Claude Code skill: Notion rows from plain words
Adds an entry to a Notion database from properties typed in everyday language. It locates the database, matches field names and checks required values.
npx skills add makenotion/cursor-notion-plugin --skill create-database-row -a claude-codeWhat create-database-row does
The skill goes through a Notion MCP server. Give it a database and a list of properties as key=value pairs; it translates those into the column names that actually exist, tolerating case and spacing differences. Should several databases fit the description, it asks you to pick one.
Before writing, it checks which required fields are still empty and asks for them. Afterwards you get the database name, the key values of the new row and a link or identifier. Properties it had to guess or leave out are called out in plain terms.
No Notion MCP server connected means no row. Set that up and verify it first.
What it helps with
- file a task into a Notion database without opening the browser
- match loose property names to real database columns
- find out which required fields block a new entry
- pick the right database when several names look alike
- get a link to the created row right away
Example prompts for the agent
- Add a row to the Tasks database: priority high, owner Alice, status open
- Create an entry in the clients database: company Vector, city Kazan, status active
- Put a new row in Projects called Site redesign, due 15 May
