comps-valuation — Claude skill: comparable-company valuation
A Claude and Claude skill that builds comparable-company valuations: picks peers, runs the multiples, and returns a report or an editable workbook.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill comps-valuation -a codexWhat comps-valuation does
This skill values a public company against its peers. It sorts the peer set into Core, Secondary, Excluded and an optional Watchlist, then works through the multiples, checks whether the metrics are truly comparable, and flags stale figures and outliers. The output says what the current share price already assumes.
Two modes. report covers peer framing, the premium or discount to the core set, and an implied value range when the evidence supports one. workbook is for Excel or Sheets: formulas, an EV bridge, refreshable peer tables, model updates, or a review of a comps workbook you already have. The skill infers the mode from your request instead of asking.
It is not built for DCF-only work, credit instruments, or general market commentary. Debt enters only as an input to equity value — net debt, leverage, refinancing risk. Bond, loan and CDS analysis belongs to a separate workflow. Before it starts, the skill loads the shared runtime contract from ../public-equity-investing/SKILL.md and resolves three source categories: company filings and IR, market data and estimates, portfolio models and trackers.
What it helps with
- pick a peer set and justify every inclusion
- run the multiples and break down the premium or discount
- build a refreshable comps table in Excel or Sheets
- audit an existing comps workbook for stale data and outliers
- show what the current share price already implies
Example prompts for the agent
- Build a comps valuation against the three closest peers and explain what justifies the premium
- Create an Excel comps workbook with formulas and an EV bridge for this company
- Audit my peer table — where is the data stale and which multiples are outliers
