cmux-cloud-vm — Claude Code skill for cmux Cloud VMs
Gives an agent a procedure for cmux Cloud machines: run a bounded command or a detached coding agent, then read the terminal output.
npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux --skill cmux-cloud-vm -a claude-codeWhat cmux-cloud-vm does
The skill lays out how an agent should handle cmux Cloud machines: pick a target, start a command or a separate coding agent there, then show what came back. A machine terminal outlives the pane and the Mac connection, so a long build keeps going.
Start with discovery: cmux vm --help, cmux auth status, cmux vm ls --json, cmux vm route --json. Route tells you where a machine would land before anything exists, so read would_provision and the backend limits first. Then choose a verb: cmux vm run for a command with an exit code, cmux vm agent for a headless agent, cmux vm dev to set up a project layout, cmux vm tree and cmux vm terminal read to watch from a distance. A finished wait does not prove the tests passed, so check the exit result itself.
Host commands on the Mac need the desktop app, a signed-in account and its private tunnel; without all three nothing starts. Creating, forking, resetting or deleting a machine waits for your approval on that target. Account tokens stay on the host, and secrets travel through the env transfer paths rather than as command-line flags.
What it helps with
- run a long command on a remote machine and capture its exit code
- send a coding agent after a background task without babysitting a window
- read what a terminal printed while staying out of the panes
- check where a machine would be placed before creating one
- reuse an existing machine instead of spinning up another
Example prompts for the agent
- Check
cmux vm ls --jsonand tell me which machine already has a workspace for this task. - Run
npm teston--machine <id>and give me the exit code. - Send a codex agent after this task with
--no-openand leave it running.

Questions about cmux-cloud-vm
How do I install cmux-cloud-vm in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux --skill cmux-cloud-vm -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/cmux-cloud-vm/SKILL.md.
What does cmux-cloud-vm do?
It tells the agent how to find a cmux Cloud machine, run commands or coding agents on it, and read their terminals. Placement checks and backend limits are part of the routine.
Do I need the desktop app for it to work?
For host commands on a Mac, yes: the app, a signed-in account and its private tunnel are all required. Inside a machine the guest help and cmux self --json cover what is available there.
