What capture-desktop does

This skill imports work completed inside the Claude Desktop application down to your local machine. Because Claude Desktop lacks an external API, everything runs via direct copy-paste. The tool hands conversation text over to scripts/capture_desktop.py, which checks for previous captures and stages the raw transcript.

Extracted content is separated into four distinct buckets. Generated drafts and documents are written to the workspace automatically. Project adjustments or behavioral rules heading for mel_wiki/ or ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md require explicit user approval before anything touches disk.

Without local scripts scripts/capture_desktop.py and scripts/check_desktop_sync.py, the workflow cannot stage transcripts or verify sync status. After updating files, it runs a drift check and creates a Git commit containing the new deliverables and documentation edits.

What it helps with

  • capture Claude Desktop conversations into local project directories
  • extract deliverables and drafts from pasted session logs
  • record workflow lessons and memory updates with manual approval
  • detect configuration drift between local files and desktop projects

Example prompts for the agent

  • /capture-desktop
  • capture this desktop session
  • save my desktop work into the project
