What competitive-teardown does

The skill guides research into one competitor or a side-by-side comparison. It covers the product itself, features, pricing, customer feedback, acquisition channels, and signs of growth. A comparison table can include target users, funding, weaknesses, and your planned product’s advantage.

The analysis then looks for gaps shared by competitors and needs users still have. It advises checking reviews across platforms and looking for recurring complaints rather than treating one bad review as a pattern. Available tools are WebSearch, WebFetch, and Read; the suggested output location is 02-research/, with templates/competitor-analysis.md as an optional template. Skipping hands-on product checks risks leaving you with a summary of marketing claims.

What it helps with

  • inspect a competitor’s product and pricing
  • compare several competitors in a structured table
  • spot recurring complaints across user reviews
  • identify user needs competitors fail to address
  • prepare research for a competition slide

Example prompts for the agent

  • Research Acme’s product, pricing, and recurring user complaints.
  • Compare these competitors in a table and find weaknesses they share.
  • Analyze competitors before we build, then draft findings for a competition slide.
