c-ai — Claude Code skill: query LLMs from your terminal
Teaches the agent to run text through llm and aichat for summaries, grammar fixes and shell command generation.
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-ai -a claude-codeWhat c-ai does
This skill covers two command-line tools for talking to language models without leaving the terminal. With llm you pipe text in: hand it an article and ask for bullet points, send a git diff to get a commit message, clean up grammar from the clipboard. Pick a model with the -m flag and browse what is available via llm models.
aichat overlaps but adds command execution. Ask it in plain words for something like a search for large files and it returns a runnable shell line, thanks to the -e flag. It also ships an interactive REPL and RAG support.
Both keep API keys on your machine and need a one-time auth setup. Those keys are separate from Claude, and you pay per token. Cloud models under llm require a plugin first: llm install llm-claude-3, or llm install llm-ollama if you want to run models locally.
What it helps with
- turn a long article into three bullet points
- write a commit message from a
git diff - fix grammar in clipboard text
- hunt for bugs in a code file
- generate a shell command from a plain description
Example prompts for the agent
- Summarize
article.txtin three bullets withllm - Write a commit message from
git diff - Find every file over 100MB using
aichat -e

Questions about c-ai
How do I install c-ai in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-ai -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/c-ai/SKILL.md.
What does c-ai do?
It documents two CLI tools for LLM queries: llm for piping text through a model, and aichat for interactive chat plus shell command generation.
Do I need separate API keys?
Yes. These tools use their own keys, unrelated to Claude. Set them up once with the auth commands, then pay per token.
