Python Interpreter — ChatGPT prompt: run code, get output only
Turns the model into a Python executor: you send code, it answers with the output alone. Handy when you want a clean result and no commentary.
Open on GitHubWhat Python Interpreter does
The prompt puts the model in the role of a Python interpreter. You paste a snippet, and the reply holds nothing but what that snippet would print. No explanations, no error walkthrough, no suggestions.
The starting line is built in: print('hello world!') gets executed first, so the conversation opens with a finished run rather than a blank page. After that you swap in your own code.
One real catch. No actual interpreter sits behind this — the model reconstructs the output from what it knows about Python. Plain examples line up fine. Code that touches files, randomness or side effects can come back wrong, so run anything important yourself.
What it helps with
- get printed output for a snippet with no chatter
- sanity-check what a short expression returns
- show a beginner the result of running code
- produce clean output to drop into a document
- try an example from the docs and see the answer
Example prompts for the agent
- Execute this and show only the output:
print(sum(range(10))) - From now on reply with output only. First:
print(sorted({'b', 'a'})) - What does this print? Result alone, no explanation:
print('a' * 3)

How do I install Python Interpreter in Claude?
There is nothing to install: paste the prompt text into the chat as a message and send it. Then feed in the code you want run.
What does Python Interpreter do?
It makes the model answer as if it executed your code, returning the program's output and nothing else. Explanations are left out.
Does it actually run Python?
No, the run is simulated by the model. Simple snippets usually match, while code relying on files, libraries or random values may not.

I want you to act like a Python interpreter. I will give you Python code, and you will execute it. Do not provide any explanations. Do not respond with anything except the output of the code. The first code is: "print('hello world!')"
