OpenSTAAD MCP Server — Claude Code MCP server: setup guide
Connects AI assistants to active Bentley STAAD.Pro models via the OpenSTAAD API. Automates load definition and member property assignments locally.
Open on GitHubWhat OpenSTAAD MCP Server does
The server exposes the OpenSTAAD API to local AI clients. Through tool calls, an assistant reads structural geometry and updates member definitions directly in the file. This cuts repetitive clicks.
The tool handles multiple running STAAD.Pro windows at once. Processing stays strictly local on your machine. There is no telemetry.
Requirements include Windows 11 and STAAD.Pro 2025. Without a model open in the software, the server will not execute any commands.
What it helps with
- assign structural sections across multiple frame members
- generate wind or seismic load combinations
- retrieve node coordinates and support reactions
- manage several open STAAD.Pro models at the same time
Example prompts for the agent
- Assign standard wide-flange beams to all columns on the ground floor.
- Set up lateral load cases for the open structural model in STAAD.Pro.
- Extract support reaction values and node coordinates for foundation design.

What does OpenSTAAD MCP Server do?
It connects an LLM agent to the OpenSTAAD API on your workstation. The agent queries structural geometry, edits properties, and defines load cases without manual UI navigation.
What are the system requirements for OpenSTAAD MCP Server?
You need Windows 11 or newer and a running copy of STAAD.Pro 2025 or newer. The server communicates via local process calls and does not send project data to any cloud service.
