Microsoft NuGet — MCP server for Claude Code and other IDEs
NuGet's MCP server gives your agent live package data from your feeds, plans upgrades and works through vulnerable dependencies.
Open on GitHubWhat Microsoft NuGet does
The server talks to your configured NuGet feeds and returns current package information to the agent. From there it plans upgrades using the project's package graph and target frameworks. For packages with known vulnerabilities it produces a conservative remediation plan that covers transitive dependencies too.
There is also a supply-chain check: Central Package Management, NuGet Audit, Package Source Mapping and the validity of NuGet.Config all get reviewed, with hardening steps suggested. Worth running if your packages rarely get touched.
It runs through the dnx command, so .NET 10 Preview 6 or later is required — without it the server will not start. Check your version with dotnet --info. Configuration goes into mcp.json; Visual Studio 2026 ships the server in-box and you enable it once from the GitHub Copilot chat tools menu. Pin a version like [email protected] and you own the updates yourself as new releases land.

Questions about Microsoft NuGet
How do I install Microsoft NuGet in Claude Code?
There is no install command for Claude. Add the server to mcp.json by hand: "command": "dnx" with args "NuGet.Mcp.Server", "--source", "https://api.nuget.org/v3/index.json", "--yes". You need .NET 10 Preview 6 or later first.
What does Microsoft NuGet do?
It feeds the agent package data from your configured feeds, plans upgrades against the project graph, and offers conservative fixes for vulnerable dependencies. It also reviews the repository's NuGet supply-chain posture.
What do I need to run the server?
.NET 10 Preview 6 or later, because that release adds the dnx command used to download and run the server. Verify with dotnet --info.
