INSSIST — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Controls your active Instagram browser session via the INSSIST extension. Helps agents handle DMs and schedule media posts.
claude mcp add --env INSSIST_MCP_PORT=<INSSIST_MCP_PORT> --env INSSIST_MCP_HOME=<INSSIST_MCP_HOME> --transport stdio inssist -- npx -y @inssist/mcpWhat INSSIST does
Instead of relying on the Graph API, this server interacts with your open browser profile using a local WebSocket on port 48231. This design removes the need for Meta developer accounts. It operates on personal, creator, and business profiles alike without storing your login credentials.
The server provides 60 distinct tools. They cover direct messages, draft scheduling, and audience audits. Media uploads via draft_create accept local files up to 100 MB or external URLs. Lengthy jobs run in the background; the agent polls their progress with dedicated status tools like insights_report or downloads_status.
Running the server requires Node.js 22 or newer alongside Chrome with the INSSIST extension installed. Without turning on the Connect to AI Agents toggle in the extension menu, incoming tool calls cannot reach your Instagram tab.
What it helps with
- read unread direct messages and draft replies
- schedule reels and stories using local video files
- export unfollower scans directly to CSV files
- collect audience metrics without Meta Graph API keys
Example prompts for the agent
- List my recent direct messages and show unread threads
- Schedule a reel from /Users/me/clip.mp4 for tomorrow at 9am with a caption
- Run an unfollowers scan and summarize accounts that left recently

Questions about INSSIST
How do I install INSSIST in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add inssist-mcp -- npx -y @inssist/mcp. Next, visit instagram.com in Chrome with the INSSIST extension open, then turn on the Connect to AI Agents toggle.
Does INSSIST require an Instagram business account?
No. Because it operates through an existing browser session, it works on personal, creator, and business accounts without Meta developer credentials.
What happens if an agent calls a PRO tool without a subscription?
The server returns an upgrade message with a link rather than throwing a fatal error, letting the agent relay the requirement clearly.
