Baron Munchausen — Claude Code MCP server: what it does & setup
Persists agent project memory locally across restarts and closed chats. Evaluates model statements and tags unbacked claims directly.
Open on GitHubWhat Baron Munchausen does
The server stores a factual graph strictly on the local machine. Data never leaves your environment. It communicates through standard MCP input-output channels or exposes a JSON-RPC endpoint at 127.0.0.1:8765. Calling memory_checkpoint retrieves 3 previous sessions alongside the last 5 project decisions.
Its built-in verification mechanism checks every answer against stored knowledge. Each sentence gets marked as grounded, partial, or ungrounded. Unsupported claims are listed individually. Claude Code hooks like PreCompact and SessionStart re-inject graph slices during context compaction.
Running the tool strictly requires Python 3.12. Because it relies entirely on the standard library, you will avoid package conflicts.
What it helps with
- keep project context intact across separate coding sessions
- flag fabricated claims in language model responses
- restore decision history after context window compactions
- operate a knowledge graph without third-party network requests
Example prompts for the agent
- Inspect memory_checkpoint to review the decisions we recorded during previous sessions.
- Store the release build configuration rule in the project graph.
- Validate the latest architecture explanation and isolate ungrounded sentences.

What does Baron Munchausen do?
It gives coding agents persistent local graph memory across closed sessions. It also inspects model output to spot sentences that lack factual backing.
What dependencies are required to run the server?
It requires Python 3.12. The runtime has zero third-party dependencies and runs completely on the standard library.
