Amass — Claude Code MCP server: life-science search
A hosted MCP server that links six life-science datasets: papers, clinical trials, drugs, genes, regulator approvals and patents. Useful when the agent should cite sources instead of guessing.
claude mcp add --transport http amass https://mcp.amass.tech/mcpWhat Amass does
Amass runs as a hosted service. The repository only carries the MCP Registry entry, so there is nothing to build or run locally. Clients connect over streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.1 by pointing at https://mcp.amass.tech/mcp; you get sent to an Amass sign-in, and a fresh account comes with trial credits. If a client cannot finish an OAuth flow, it can pass an Amass API key (amass_…) as a bearer token instead.
Six Cores sit behind the endpoint, cross-linked so one query can hop between them. BioMedCore holds biomedical publications with abstracts, authors, journal metadata, citations and MeSH terms, plus society conference abstracts. TrialCore covers clinical trials with phase, status, sponsor, conditions, arms and posted results. DrugCore carries harmonized molecules, GeneCore genes with UniProt annotations, RegulatoryCore FDA and EMA authorizations with parsed source documents, and PatentCore is in preview.
Each Core exposes a search_amass_<core>_records tool for discovery and a get_amass_<core>_record tool for pulling a known identifier. Searches take a limit between 1 and 50, defaulting to 10. Every Core except PatentCore also accepts minLastUpdateDate and minCreateDate, which filter on when a record was last touched or first ingested — handy for "what changed since I last looked".
What it helps with
- pull papers tied to a given gene or drug
- check which phase a trial stopped at
- compare FDA and EMA authorizations for one molecule
- see what entered the corpus since the last query
- trace a topic from a paper through to a patent
Example prompts for the agent
- Search Amass for clinical trials on this drug and show phase and status
- Which publications for this gene were updated in the past month?
- Show FDA and EMA approvals for this compound

Questions about Amass
How do I install Amass in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http amass https://mcp.amass.tech/mcp. The first request then opens an Amass sign-in.
What does Amass do?
It gives the agent six cross-linked life-science datasets: publications, clinical trials, drugs, genes, regulator approvals and patents. Records can be searched by filters or fetched by a known identifier.
Do I need an API key?
Usually not — OAuth 2.1 sign-in is enough. An amass_… key as a bearer token is only for clients that cannot complete the OAuth flow.
