pac-create-epic — Claude Code command for creating epics
Creates a Product as Code epic with a YAML specification and project directory. Use it to define scope, ownership, and success criteria.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command project-management/pac-create-epicWhat pac-create-epic does
The command checks the PAC setup in .pac/, derives an epic ID from its name, and writes a YAML file under .pac/epics/. The specification covers the description, scope, success criteria, constraints, and dependencies. It also records the required metadata: ID, name, creation timestamp, and owner. If details are missing, the command asks the user for them.
It creates an epic directory, updates .pac/index.yaml when that file exists, and creates a pac/[epic-id] branch inside a Git repository. PAC must be configured first; if the setup is missing, the command suggests /project:pac-configure. You can then add tickets with /project:pac-create-ticket --epic [epic-id].
What it helps with
- create a PAC epic with a YAML specification
- set an epic’s owner, description, and scope
- record success criteria, constraints, and dependencies
- prepare the epic directory and update the PAC index
- create a Git branch for an epic
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a
checkout-redesignepic for the checkout rewrite and assign it toalex. - Set up an
api-v2epic covering the new API version and migration scope. - Create a
search-filtersepic and ask me for its success criteria and dependencies.
