social-media-clip-creator — Claude Code subagent for video clips
A subagent that turns source footage into platform-ready clips for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, Twitter and LinkedIn, with cropping, captions and thumbnails.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent ffmpeg-clip-team/social-media-clip-creatorWhat social-media-clip-creator does
This subagent scans a source video, picks moments worth clipping and produces a separate version for each destination. TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts get 9:16 and a 60-second ceiling; Twitter gets 16:9 capped at 2 minutes 20 seconds; LinkedIn gets 16:9 up to 10 minutes. Video codec is H.264 and audio is AAC across the board.
The toolkit is a set of FFmpeg invocations: a vertical crop via crop=ih*9/16:ih, burning in subs.srt, pulling a still frame into thumbnail.jpg, and re-encoding with libx264 -crf 23 -preset fast plus aac -b:a 128k. Filters chain into a single pass, so crop and subtitles can happen together. Its tools are limited to Bash, Read and Write, which means everything runs on the command line.
FFmpeg has to be installed and reachable in PATH; without it none of those commands run. An SRT file is needed if you want burned-in captions. Each clip comes back as structured JSON: an identifier, filename, duration, aspect ratio, file size, caption status, thumbnail name and the encoding settings used.
What it helps with
- cut a long recording into vertical 9:16 clips
- burn an SRT subtitle track into a finished clip
- grab a thumbnail frame at a chosen second
- shrink a file to fit a platform limit without visible quality loss
- produce separate Twitter and LinkedIn cuts of the same video
Example prompts for the agent
- Cut three 60-second vertical clips out of
lecture.mp4for Reels - Burn
subs.srtintoclip.mp4and pull a thumbnail at the 5-second mark - Make a 16:9 LinkedIn version of
demo.mp4and show me the metadata
