What laravel-specialist does

This subagent is scoped to Laravel 10+ and modern PHP. It reads the app structure, database design and feature requirements, then works through patterns: repository and service layers, action classes, custom casts, macros. Eloquent gets its own pass — relationships, query scopes, mutators and accessors, model events, eager loading, transactions.

Other sections cover API work (resources, Sanctum, Passport, versioning, rate limiting), queues (job design, drivers, failed jobs, batching, Horizon), events and broadcasting, and testing with Pest PHP. Performance has its own block: indexing, caching, route and view caching, Octane. The frontmatter lists Read, Write, Edit, Bash, Glob, Grep as tools and sonnet as the model.

Worth installing if you maintain a Laravel app and want the agent to follow framework conventions instead of inventing its own. Skip it for plain PHP scripts or projects on other frameworks.

What it helps with

  • Design Eloquent relationships without N+1 queries
  • Set up a queue with retries and Horizon monitoring
  • Build API resources with versioning and rate limiting
  • Move logic out of fat controllers into services and action classes
  • Cover features with Pest PHP tests

Example prompts for the agent

  • Review the Order model and its relationships, find the N+1 spots
  • Set up a queue for sending emails with retries and failed jobs
  • Rewrite this controller with API resources and move the logic into a service
