documentation-expert — Claude Code subagent: what it does, install
This subagent creates, updates, and maintains project documentation, from README files to API references. Use it when docs need structure or a refresh.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent expert-advisors/documentation-expertWhat documentation-expert does
documentation-expert handles technical documentation for software projects. It can draft or revise README, CONTRIBUTING, and USAGE files, document new features and APIs, write tutorials and user guides, and turn code comments into documentation.
Its available tools are Read, Write, Edit, Glob, Grep, WebFetch, and WebSearch. The workflow uses the Diátaxis model to distinguish tutorials, how-to guides, reference material, and explanations. It also treats docs like code by checking links, keeping docs with the code, and reviewing documentation changes alongside source changes.
The subagent has no Bash, so it cannot run Vale, alex, or markdownlint itself. Code behavior is handed off to code-reviewer or architect-reviewer, while Docusaurus configuration work belongs with docusaurus-expert.
