The UK Gambling Commission suspended the licences of BresBet Ltd and Bet St George Ltd on 28 August after identifying failures in social responsibility and anti-money laundering controls.
Both companies share a registered address in Sheffield and list Nicholas James Brereton as director. BresBet was incorporated in March 2021 and received remote licences in February 2025, offering sports and racing betting, virtual events, casino and live games. Bet St George was registered in June 2025, launched publicly in March 2026 and obtained licences in December 2025 with a similar product range.
The regulator opened a review under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005, which allows the UKGC to reconsider a licence holder's eligibility when there are grounds to suspect non-compliance. Details of the breaches have not been disclosed. Operators may allow customers to access accounts and withdraw funds but cannot resume taking bets until the issues are resolved.
BresBet's latest accounts for the year to March 2025 show 14 employees and £3.5m in creditor liabilities. Bet St George has not yet filed accounts. Revenue figures for both companies are not published.
The suspension is not a final decision. The UKGC will assess whether the operators can remedy the failures and retain their licences. Over the past month the regulator fined QuinnBet (Gibraltar) £609,104 and Holland Park Leisure £150,000; in June it fined Petfre (Gibraltar), which operates Betfred, £900,000. Evolution paid £4.75m in July following an investigation.
