Uzbekistan's National Agency for Perspective Projects has added GLI to its list of accredited testing laboratories. Operators and suppliers can now use GLI certification reports when launching gaming products in the country. The decision was published on 25 August.
Uzbekistan's regulated gaming market is entering its operational phase. Four licences have been issued to two operators. GLI is among the first laboratories whose reports the regulator will accept. 'Uzbekistan is becoming a key regulated market in Central Asia, and we are proud to be recognised within the new regulatory framework,' said Lucas Zavarise, GLI's regulatory liaison manager for the EMEIA region.
GLI and NAPP representatives met in August to discuss the regulatory framework and long-term market support. Some technical requirements are still being finalised, and GLI continues consulting with the agency as NAPP refines the details. According to Zavarise, the regulator is focused on controlled and sustainable development of the country's gaming industry.
For suppliers and aggregators working in the CIS, the Uzbek licence opens access to a newly regulated market. Two operators with four licences is a modest start, but GLI certification simplifies entry: a product tested once can be offered to both. The pace of licensing and final technical standards will become clear in the coming months.
