Mendoza province closed the traditional gaming floor at Casino de Mendoza in Godoy Cruz, ending roulette, blackjack and poker-table operations. Slots remain open. The closure affected 81 employees, who were offered voluntary retirement, transfer to other government departments, or six months of paid reserve status.
The move is part of a broader restructuring of the Instituto Provincial de Juegos y Casinos (IPJyC), the province's gambling regulator. Law 9718, which took effect on 23 July 2026, gives the institute one year to overhaul its structure, functions and payroll to achieve financial balance. The trigger was falling demand for live-table games and a fire on 11 March 2026 at the Tótem Boulevard complex that destroyed the eastern Casino de Mendoza premises in San Martín.
In April, Mendoza governor Alfredo Cornejo told gaming-industry workers that online was displacing brick-and-mortar venues and advised them to 'worry about the general situation'.
Online market grows
Mendoza launched regulated online gambling under Law 9267 and IPJyC Resolution 554/22. The regulator issued five licences in April 2023 — Super7, RushBet, Bplay, Codere and BetWarrior; the RushBet licence was later transferred to Betano.mendoza. In February 2025 the province ran a second tender for the final two licences under the law: KLP Emprendimientos in a joint venture with Casino Club secured approval for Casino Club Online, and a partnership of Argenbingo, Operalogist and Nuevo Plaza Hotel Mendoza won the licence for Sportsbet. Both teams committed 10% revshare to IPJyC.
The traditional gaming floor on Avenida San Martín closed on 5 August.
