Universal Entertainment Corp, operator of Okada Manila in the Philippines, posted an operating loss of $8.7 million in Q2 2026 and announced a strategic shift toward mass market and its Okada Play online platform. Revenue fell 13% year-on-year to $191 million, while adjusted EBITDA dropped 62.5% to $17.4 million.
The company attributed the results to shifting competitive dynamics in the Philippine market and macroeconomic headwinds: inflationary pressure, tighter monetary policy and geopolitical tension. In May, Universal launched Okada Play in partnership with PhilWeb Corporation, an online platform for the Philippines designed to offset land-based visitation volatility and reach new player segments.
Beyond online, Universal is building non-gaming revenue through large-scale events and cutting costs. The company described part of Q2 spending as strategic investment in growth and brand strengthening. Okada Manila won two categories at the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2026.
The omnichannel strategy — integrating online and land-based operations — underpins the attempt to diversify the revenue base. For regional operators, it is a standard response to declining premium GGR: shift focus to mass table games and digital channels with more predictable economics.
