Queensland has deferred the suspension of The Star Gold Coast casino licence by six months to 31 March 2027. The decision follows a report by Special Manager Nicholas Weeks.
The licence was due to be suspended for 90 days from 30 September 2026. Weeks noted in his August assessment that the operator had made considerable progress on remediation but that several priority commitments remained in train. The Star has carried out organisational and financial reforms since the previous review.
The deferral gives the operator time to complete outstanding remediation plan commitments. Weeks will continue to oversee the reforms, with his mandate also extended to 31 March 2027. Queensland Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Deb Frecklington said expectations have not changed. If the company fails to meet its obligations, the state will act immediately.
The Star Gold Coast is one of three assets held by The Star Entertainment. The group completed the sale of Queen's Wharf Brisbane in mid-2026 and secured $390 million in refinancing through WhiteHawk Capital Partners. The company reported a loss of AU$110 million but the situation is stabilising.
