Chile's telecoms regulator Subtel ordered six ISPs — Entel, Movistar, Claro, GTD, WOM and VTR — to block 37 domains, subdomains and mirror sites of betting and casino operators on 21 September 2026. The list was compiled by gambling supervisor SCJ (Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego) and approved by the Supreme Court and the Santiago Court of Appeals.
Providers have 48 hours from notification to implement DNS blocks. They must submit proof of compliance to the Santiago Court of Appeals with the exact date and time.
Subtel said the court chose DNS blocking because it is targeted and carries lower risk of collateral restriction to legitimate sites. The regulator said it will continue the procedure as new domains are identified, provided they are vetted and approved by SCJ. A mechanism is in place to lift blocks if lawful services are affected.
Chilean online betting association aPAL, which represents operators in the local market, contested the new order. It said some domains on the list are not covered by the court rulings cited by the regulator.
This is the second wave of blocks in September: the same six providers were earlier instructed to close 42 betting platform URLs. Chile is tightening enforcement on unlicensed iGaming — a bill to establish a new gambling authority and introduce a 20 per cent tax on online betting is under review.
