Analysis: Reddit Appears in 83.9% of Google’s Discussions and Forums Results

Reddit dominates Google's Discussions and Forums block

Ahrefs analysed Google search results and found Reddit appears in 83.9% of searches worldwide when Google displays the Discussions and Forums block. In the US the figure is higher at 87.8%.

Each result averages 1.29 Reddit links. The platform does not just appear — it often takes multiple positions in a single block.

What it means for SEO

Google shows the discussions block more often now. It used to be rare; now it appears for thousands of queries, from technical questions to product choices.

If your niche overlaps with topics where users look for opinions and experience, ignoring Reddit costs traffic. The platform has become part of organic search results, which makes it part of promotion strategy.

Why Reddit wins

Reddit wins because of structure. Each thread is a separate page with a clear title, discussion and voting. Google parses that content easily and recognises real people discussing real problems.

Editorial articles lose because they read like advertising. Reddit gives what the user wants: honest reviews, comparisons, warnings about issues.

How to use this in traffic

If you run offers where reviews matter — nutra, betting, finance — Reddit is now an entry point. People google "best VPN reddit" or "casino bonus reddit" and see threads, not your landing pages.

Options:

Monitor mentions. Track what people write about your vertical. If a thread ranks in Google and contains negative comments about a competitor, that is your opening.

Organic through discussions. Build accounts with history, participate in relevant subreddits. Direct links get banned, but brand or product mentions in context work.

Query analysis. Check which keywords trigger the Discussions block. If your target queries are there, Reddit is mandatory.

Ahrefs data

Ahrefs researchers ran the study with data scientist Xibeijia Guan. The sample covered global search results across different query types.

Results:

  • 83.9% of searches with a Discussions block contain Reddit (worldwide)
  • 87.8% in the US
  • 1.29 Reddit links per result on average

Other platforms appear in the block but their share is an order of magnitude lower. Reddit dominates.

What comes next

Google will show the discussions block more frequently. Algorithms optimise for user intent, and users want opinions, not ads.

For arbitrageurs this is a new warm-up channel. For SEO it signals a content strategy review. Blog articles work, but if Google prefers Reddit threads, you need to work there too.

The platform has become part of search infrastructure. Ignoring it means losing traffic.
