Bet St George and BresBet cease operations following Gambling Commission suspension

UK bookmakers Bet St George and BresBet have surrendered their licences to the Gambling Commission following suspension. The regulator halted both operators over suspected breaches of social responsibility and anti-money laundering rules.

The two businesses are linked through Nic Brereton, who founded BresBet and chaired the board at Bet St George. Surrendering the licences makes it harder for the Commission to recover fines. Personal management licences may still be revoked, which would bar the executives from holding senior roles at other UK operators.

Bet St George received its licence in December 2025 and launched in March 2026. The operator ran marketing during Cheltenham Festival and positioned itself around English audiences. Ads aired on talkSPORT even after the suspension. The company has told customers to withdraw balances by the end of the month.

BresBet operated via white label for most of the past decade and obtained its own UK licence in March 2025. The operator has now told customers with balances below £1 that no refund is necessary.

The collapse of two connected operators shows how hard it is for smaller players to survive in the UK market. Both businesses chose to exit rather than face heavy penalties from the Commission, which recently warned it would crack down harder on breaches.
