Digital Technologies in the Financial Sector

On 8 September 2026, CNews will host the Digital Technologies in the Financial Sector conference in Moscow. Digitisation of the Russian banking sector is considered among the most advanced worldwide. Leading market players have long outgrown traditional financial institutions, turning into full-fledged IT giants and ecosystems. The main focus is mobile banking. Today, nearly any transaction, from opening an account or securing a mortgage to investing in securities, takes just a few clicks. Biometric identification, the Faster Payments System (FPS), and AI chatbots made financial services accessible around the clock. Banks also reshape their internal workflows. Facing import substitution and cybersecurity requirements, domestic fintech firms switch to sovereign software and proprietary cloud platforms. Big data and machine learning help lenders tailor offers, evaluate credit risks with precision, and fight fraud. The digital ruble pilot marks another major phase, set to overhaul domestic settlement architecture.
