wp-playground — Claude Code skill: routing WordPress Playground work
A thin routing wrapper that picks the right WordPress Playground workflow for the agent: Blueprint, local CLI, browser share links or debugging.
npx skills add WordPress/agent-skills --skill wp-playground -a claude-codeWhat wp-playground does
The skill does little on its own. It reads the request, decides which Playground path fits, and loads a single reference: references/cli.md for local runs with @wp-playground/cli, references/debugging.md for Xdebug and stuck runs, references/website.md for browser workflows and share links. Blueprint JSON authoring goes to the separate blueprint skill, so the schema lives in one place.
Local CLI work needs Node.js 20.18+ and npm or npx on the machine. Playground runs WordPress in WebAssembly on SQLite, targeting WordPress 7.0+ and PHP 7.4.0+. Instances are disposable, so never aim them at production data.
One limit bites quickly: the browser-only Playground cannot read local filesystem paths. Feed it a public URL, a hosted ZIP bundle or inline Blueprint JSON instead. Tasks that need PHP extensions, direct database access or persistence are out of scope — reach for a full stack like wp-env or Docker there.
What it helps with
- spin up WordPress locally without a full stack
- build a playground.wordpress.net share link from a Blueprint
- switch WordPress or PHP versions to test compatibility
- mount a plugin or theme into a Playground instance
- diagnose a hung CLI run and turn on Xdebug
Example prompts for the agent
- Run WordPress Playground locally and mount the plugin in this folder
- Generate a playground.wordpress.net share link with my Blueprint
- The CLI run is stuck — enable Xdebug and show me the logs

Questions about wp-playground
How do I install wp-playground in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add WordPress/agent-skills --skill wp-playground -a claude-code. The skill lands at ~/.claude/skills/wp-playground/SKILL.md.
What does the wp-playground skill do?
It routes: it identifies the Playground task type and loads the matching reference for CLI, debugging or browser work. Blueprint JSON authoring is handed to the blueprint skill.
Can a local Playground be shared as a browser link?
No. A local server URL is not a portable share link; that path goes through references/website.md.
