wp-wpcli-and-ops — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
A skill for WordPress operations through wp: move domains, export the database, install plugins, inspect cron. Useful when the agent has to touch a live site, not just theme files.
npx skills add WordPress/agent-skills --skill wp-wpcli-and-ops -a claude-codeWhat wp-wpcli-and-ops does
This one covers the ops side of WordPress through wp: replacing strings in the database when a domain or protocol changes, exporting and importing dumps, installing and updating plugins and themes, listing cron events, flushing caches and rewrites, running site commands on multisite. Before any write it asks for the environment and the target to be confirmed, --path plus --url on a network.
What sits inside is a step-by-step procedure and a references/ folder with separate notes: safety.md, search-replace.md, packages-and-updates.md, cron-and-cache.md, multisite.md, automation.md, debugging.md. On top of that an inspector script: node skills/wp-wpcli-and-ops/scripts/wpcli_inspect.mjs --path=<path> [--url=<url>]. It reports where you are and what you are pointing at before any real command fires. For repeated work it suggests a wp-cli.yml holding the path and PHP memory limits.
You need WP-CLI in the execution environment, and WordPress 7.0+ on PHP 7.4.0+. URL migration follows a fixed order: wp db export, then wp search-replace --dry-run, then the real replace, then a cache flush. When it cannot confirm the environment is safe, it refuses write operations outright. That refusal is the point: check which install your agent is actually looking at before you let it near production.
What it helps with
- move a site to a new domain without breaking serialized data
- take a database dump before a risky change
- install a plugin with its language pack
- isolate the cron event that breaks a page and run it alone
- flush caches and rewrite rules after an edit
Example prompts for the agent
- Export the database with `wp db export` and move the site to the new domain, run `search-replace` with `--dry-run` first
- Check with the inspector that `--path` points at the right install, then list the active plugins
- Figure out why `wp db export` fails on staging, leave production alone
