shopify-use-shopify-cli — Claude skill: run Shopify CLI tasks
A skill that steers your agent toward the right Shopify CLI command and helps it run or fix things now: config validation, store operations, setup errors.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill shopify-use-shopify-cli -a codexWhat shopify-use-shopify-cli does
The skill loads into your agent and takes over when a task has to be executed or repaired through Shopify CLI. The agent picks the command path, spells out flags, files and auth requirements, and when a command is unfamiliar it points to shopify commands and shopify help [command]. For app and extension config checks it goes to shopify app config validate --json from the app root instead of GraphQL validation.
What sits inside: install and upgrade steps for the CLI, the order of operations for validating shopify.app.toml, shopify.app.<name>.toml and shopify.extension.toml, store-scoped workflows, and triage for missing commands, outdated versions and auth failures. Commands the agent runs itself get prefixed with SHOPIFY_CLI_AGENT_INFO and SHOPIFY_CLI_AGENT_IDS; examples shown to you stay plain shopify ....
Node.js is required. When a command is unrecognized, the skill reaches for shopify upgrade first rather than improvising a workaround. GraphQL validation is a separate tool and does not cover TOML or extension configs, so mixing the two wastes a round trip.
What it helps with
- validate
shopify.app.tomland extension configs before deploy - run an existing GraphQL query through the CLI
- update inventory by SKU or location name
- figure out why
shopify store executeis missing - authenticate a store and run a store-scoped operation
Example prompts for the agent
- Validate the app config: run
shopify app config validate --jsonfrom the app root - Run a query against my store with
shopify store execute shopify store executeis not found — what now?

Questions about shopify-use-shopify-cli
How do I install shopify-use-shopify-cli in Claude?
Run npx skills add openai/plugins --skill shopify-use-shopify-cli, then add the agent flag if you want it pinned: npx skills add openai/plugins --skill shopify-use-shopify-cli -a codex. The skill lands at .agents/skills/shopify-use-shopify-cli/SKILL.md.
What does shopify-use-shopify-cli do?
It guides the agent through Shopify CLI work: choosing the command, explaining flags and prerequisites, and troubleshooting install, auth and version problems. Config validation for apps and extensions is handled here too.
How is it different from working with the Admin API?
This one is about executing commands, not explaining the API. If you only need schema understanding or codegen with no CLI run, it is the wrong skill.
