setup-codemap-cli — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Configures the Codemap CLI utility to inspect project file trees and module dependencies. Helpful when giving an AI agent clear architectural context across Git branches.
npx skills add NeoLabHQ/context-engineering-kit --skill setup-codemap-cli -a claude-codeWhat setup-codemap-cli does
The skill verifies whether codemap is installed via codemap -help and runs the appropriate Homebrew or Scoop installation if it is missing. Once the binary is present, it tests the CLI with codemap . before editing any project files.
It prompts you to pick one of three storage levels: shared project config in CLAUDE.md, local untracked rules in CLAUDE.local.md, or global user settings under ~/.claude/. The workflow writes navigation instructions into the markdown file, explains flags like --diff or --deps, and adds .codemap/ to .gitignore.
For automated context, the assistant registers hooks inside settings.json. The default session-start hook inspects branch changes and git status immediately when a session begins. Without Homebrew or Scoop available in your terminal, automatic binary installation will fail.
What it helps with
- install Codemap CLI across macOS, Linux, or Windows
- inject codebase navigation rules into
CLAUDE.md - configure lifecycle hooks to track Git status and diffs on session start
- inspect file importers and dependency flows during edits
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up Codemap CLI for this repository
- Install Codemap CLI and add hooks to my global ~/.claude/settings.json
- Run setup-codemap-cli using local untracked settings in CLAUDE.local.md
